“Make time for your ideas, set personal growth goals, and plan how to get there. Don’t be bashful to volunteer to be on new projects and opportunities—those are sometimes the biggest career lessons. Without opportunities, there is no success.”
At nVent, we’re not just about creating innovative solutions; we’re also about fostering a work culture where employees thrive and grow. Sanel, a design to manufacturing (DTM) post sales specialist, epitomizes this spirit. Working remotely from Denver, Colorado, Sanel’s story is one of passion, innovation, and teamwork.
“My main drive for joining nVent was their growth prospects,” Sanel shares. “nVent had a reputation as being great company to work for just based on my own initial research before I started — employees loved the company. You can’t ask for more than a type of work culture where you want to work.”
Sanel’s interest was piqued by nVent’s venture into the software design industry. This new frontier offered a playground for innovation, where thinking in an unexpected way and creating new customer solutions was the norm. “To me, that meant new frontiers, thinking creatively to develop new customer solutions and to be innovative,” Sanel explains. With a background in aerospace, having launched 70 rockets and payloads around the solar system, Sanel saw a fitting challenge at nVent. “And I can confirm: DTM Panel can be used to launch rockets,” Sanel quips.
Sanel enjoys the dynamic nature of his job. “With a small team, you get to wear a lot of hats to make sure the business has solid support, training, documentation foundations—and that a team is supporting each other,” Sanel says. Rather than seeing this as a drawback, Sanel embraces the variety. “For some, this may be a bad thing, but having a different day—every day—is what I enjoy.”
Sanel’s days are packed with logistics. “Schedules are packed with customer trainings and coaching, software testing and debugging, enhancing existing software, and sharing visions of what new features may be beneficial to end users and customers,” Sanel notes. The rewards of successful trainings and positive customer feedback make the weeks fulfilling. “Indulging in rewards of successful trainings and great customer feedback, and solving customers’ visions is what makes my week.”
Reflecting on the team’s journey, Sanel acknowledges the challenges and growth. “Our DTM team story may be a short one, and at the same time a challenging one at first for our first year. We have already demonstrated bold ideas and room for growth with customer in mind,” Sanel says. The team has grown closer, becoming more authentic and collaborative, which enhances productivity. “Team challenge was to get going quickly, and we did. The team is resilient and willing to take on any challenge.”
For Sanel, nVent’s culture of openness, respect, and shared diversity of experiences is exactly what was sought. “Culture at nVent is what I wanted it to be…openness, respect of each other and each other’s views and opinions, shared diversity of experiences, and most importantly, all of us have high hopes and expectations where we see ourselves and the company as we grow,” Sanel says.
Sanel’s advice to colleagues and future employees is clear: “Make time for your ideas, set personal growth goals, and plan how to get there. Don’t be bashful to volunteer to be on new projects and opportunities—those are sometimes the biggest career lessons. Without opportunities, there is no success.”
At nVent, we’re proud to have team members like Sanel, who embody our values and drive us towards greater heights.
